Joe Garel of Western Film Services

Film Distribution Legacy

Western Film Services is built on a film distribution legacy. We are shaped by generations of experience in exhibition, booking, and studio strategy.

At the helm is Joe Garel, a fourth-generation film professional with roots in both exhibition and distribution dating back to the nickelodeon era. Film is not just his career, but his family legacy.

A Los Angeles native, Joe built his career in theatrical distribution at major studios. There, he developed a strong understanding of how films are positioned, negotiated, and released across varied markets. Joe later spent several years booking for a Top 10 theatrical circuit, overseeing programming across diverse and competitive regions and strengthening its national standing.

Today, Joe brings that film distribution legacy to independent theaters and distribution partners through insightful strategy and informed negotiation.

Joe is supported by his wife, Rachael Garel, who oversees marketing and operational administration, and a wide network of industry partners and contacts.

Who We Serve

Western Film Services works with independent cinemas ranging from single-screen operators to multi-location circuits in competitive regional markets. We represent exhibitors seeking dynamic, strategic film booking grounded in real market experience. Working hands-on with theater owners each week, we collaborate directly on programming decisions, reviewing performance, and shaping calendars that reflect the realities of their specific markets.

We also partner worldwide with producers, rights holders, and distributors seeking focused theatrical representation across North America. Whether supporting an independent title or coordinating a broader platform release, we help structure practical release strategies designed to give each film the strongest opportunity to perform.

Above all else, we serve cinephiles like us and love nothing more than to talk all things film related. Drop us a line and tell us about your theater or project today.
